Although the “nones,” tend to have socially liberal viewpoints, they lack the coordination that evangelicals have within the Republican Party. “You might say we are awaiting the emergence of a secular Jerry Falwell,” said David Campbell, who chairs the political science department at the University of Notre Dame.
