Ruth Moon of Christianity Today examines the evangelical reaction to Pope Benedict XVI’s departure. Evangelicals admired the Pope’s strong stances on abortion, the sanctity of life, and traditional marriage. Russell Moore, dean of the school of theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said, “His legacy is one of speaking forcefully in defense of old truths. In an era that defined progress as capitulation to the sexual revolution, Benedict stood firm for the permanent things of human dignity and life and marriage.”
