What the Death of Justice Antonin Scalia Means for Religious Liberty

posted on February 15, 2016

At The Atlantic, Emma Green reports that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia did not allow his devout Catholic faith to cloud his strict adherence to the Constitution. “His Roman Catholic faith often seemed to lurk in the background of his opinions, especially in cases involving abortion and homosexuality,” Green writes. “But above all, he was committed to a literal, originalist interpretation of the Constitution, along with strict attention to the texts of federal and state laws. His views didn’t always align with those of the Church, and he didn’t always side with people making religious-freedom claims.”
