Utah and Mormons Walk a Complicated Line on Gay, Religious Rights

Tamara Audi of The Wall Street Journal reports on the conflict between religious and LGBT rights in Utah, in light of the Mormon Church’s new policies limiting the role of LGBT members. A law put in place six months ago called the “Utah Compromise” made steps to protect religious opposition to same-sex marriage as well as to prevent LGBT discrimination. Activists on both sides say the law is not perfect, but Equality Utah’s Troy Williams says, “What is a model for others is how we came to our legislation, which is opposing groups coming together and finding common ground.”
