Trial Begins in Legal Challenge to No-Fly List
posted on December 3, 2013At USA Today, the Associated Press reports, “An eight-year legal odyssey by a Malaysian university professor to clear her name from the U.S. government’s no-fly list went to trial Monday in federal court in San Francisco.” Rahinah Ibrahim claims she was placed on the list because of her nationality and Islamic faith, but has faced obstacles because of the U.S. government’s secret privilege that allows it to decline to provide evidence if it can prove it is crucial to national security. “Once you’re in the system it’s almost impossible to get out,” said Ibrahim’s lawyer Elizabeth Pipkin.
