Third-Party Report Details ACNA Leaders’ Inaction on Sexual Abuse Allegations
posted on October 4, 2022Kathryn Post of Religion News Service reports, “A long-awaited third-party report on sexual abuse reveals that leaders in an Anglican Church in North America diocese failed to act on tips about sexual misconduct and abuse and defended an alleged abuser as innocent while questioning reported survivors’ credibility.” The investigative firm Hush Blackwell authored the report on the Upper Midwest Diocese but did not include suggestions about accountability or curative measures. The Rev. Gina Roes, a deacon in the church, said, “It sort of defeats the purpose of having an investigation if there are no conclusions that can be made from the report. It leaves it in the hands of the ACNA and the diocese to interpret and characterize those facts.”
