The State Election That Could Change Abortion Access in the South

David A. Graham of The Atlantic reports that the North Carolina elections for the state legislature could determine whether abortions are still accessible in the Southeast. North Carolina’s Democratic Governor, Roy Cooper, has previously vetoed and plans to continue to veto legislation restricting abortion in the state. If Republicans take a supermajority in the state legislature, however, they could override his veto and pass an abortion ban. Cooper said, “I’m not personally on the ballot. My ability to stop bad legislation is. The effectiveness of the veto is on the line.”
