posted on November 10, 2014In The New Yorker, David Remnick profiles the new conservative Israeli President Reuvin Rivlin or, as Remnick calls him, “Israel’s most unlikely moralist.” Though Rivlin opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state, he also swears Israel “will never act against the principle of equal rights, and we will never try and force someone from our land.” Rivilin’s comments upset members of the resentful right, who took to the web to mock him. “At some point, something came over Israel so that everyone has his own ideas—and everyone else is an enemy. It’s a dialogue among deaf people and it is getting more and more serious,” Rivlin said.
