The Lawyer Who Defeated DOMAposted on October 27, 2015
Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick interviews Roberta Kaplan, the lawyer who won the Supreme Court case against the Defense of Marriage Act in 2013. Kaplan’s book about the case was published earlier this month. “I think one mistake that our movement made earlier in the struggle was to cede the religious arguments to our adversaries,” Kaplan says. She added that she was “obsessed” with making sure religious voices in support of marriage equality were included in her case’s amicus briefs.
