The Afterlife of Rachel Held Evans

posted on October 27, 2021

Eliza Griswold of The New Yorker writes that Rachel Held Evans, the late influential Christian writer, has a posthumous book out, Wholehearted Faith. After Held Evans died unexpectedly at 37, her friend, the writer and minister Jeff Chu, helped complete her unfinished manuscript of essays, which will be released next month. Held Evans grew up as a conservative evangelical Christian, and her books spoke to many evangelicals who had grown disillusioned but still retained their Christian faith. Chu said, “This book was not meant to be a progressive Christian manifesto. It’s a pastoral letter to someone Rachel loved. It says you’re not alone because you’re questioning.”
