Survey: Yom Kippur Not as Important to Younger Jews

Lauren Markoe of Religion News Service reports the findings of a Public Religion Research Institute survey asking, “What is the most important Jewish holiday for you personally?” Overall, older and younger Jewish Americans rank Yom Kippur as their most important holiday, but Markoe writes that more young Jews chose Hanukkah as their most important holiday. Both age groups had a similar percentage (around 10 percent) of members who ranked Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year beginning today at sundown, highest.
