Survey: Today’s Evangelicals More Likely to Welcome the Stranger
posted on September 29, 2022Emily Belz of Christianity Today reports that a new Lifeway Research poll found that evangelical support for immigrants and immigration reform has increased in the last seven years. She writes, “Now 77 percent of self-identified evangelicals are ‘strongly’ or ‘somewhat’ in favor of a path to citizenship, up from 61 percent who said ‘yes’ seven years before.” The shift may be due to the growing number of evangelicals who believe that the United States has a moral obligation to take in refugees. Jeren Rowell, the president of Nazarene Theological Seminary, said, “I would hope it has to do with learning and faithful witness over time.”
