Some Evangelicals Take New Look at Bible’s Stance on Gays
posted on June 8, 2015In The New York Times, Laurie Goodstein profiles Matthew Vines, a gay Christian activist who meets with evangelical leaders across the U.S. to discuss the Bible’s attitudes toward homosexuality and gay marriage. “Mr. Vines says he has held about three dozen meetings all over the country in the last year with evangelical leaders who oppose his ideas,” Goodstein writes. Though he has changed few minds, Vines “explained that first step in changing churches would be to identify the ‘silent sympathizers’ and encourage them to speak up.”
