posted on January 15, 2014

USA Today reports on a statement released by Senate Select Committee on Intelligence blaming the State Department for the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in 2012. “The attacks were preventable, based on extensive intelligence reporting on the terrorist activity in Libya — to include prior threats and attacks against Western targets — and given the known security shortfalls at the U.S. Mission,” according to the statement. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said, “Obviously, we’ve talked at length about the fact that we knew there were extremists and terrorists operating in Libya and in Benghazi. But, again, we had no specific information indicating a threat an attack was coming.”
