SB128, California’s Right-to-Die Bill, Denied

In The San Jose Mercury News, Jessica Calefati and Lisa M. Krieger report that the California Assembly Health Committee decided on Tuesday that its right-to-die bill had too little support to advance to the Assembly floor. Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez feared the bill would allow doctors to “coerce the poor to end their lives when they became seriously ill,” Calefati and Krieger write. Gonzalez was one of several Democrats on the health committee “lobbied heavily by the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles to oppose the bill.”
