Safe in the U.S., Afghan Evacuees Turn Their Attention to the Families They Left Behind

Emily McFarlan Miller of Religion News Service reports that faith-based refugee resettlement agencies are ramping up their capacity to assist the family members of Afghan refugees who are already in the United States. Many of these organizations encouraged the White House to begin the evacuation process months ago and are now working around the clock to help those who were left behind after the hasty withdrawal. Jenny Yang, the senior vice president of advocacy and policy at the evangelical resettlement agency World Relief, said “The United States and the international community must do the hard work now of protecting and assisting those who cannot remain in Afghanistan safely.”
