Rev. Billy Graham Will Have a Memorial Viewing at the U.S. Capitol. Is that Appropriate for a Religious Leader?

The Washington Post’s Michelle Boorstein reports that law experts are concerned by the decision to allow the late Rev. Billy Graham to lie in memorial in the Capitol Rotunda. Referring to Graham, University of Virginia political history professor Barbara Perry said, “Lying in honor should be someone who served their country. Well, how did he do that?” Besides Graham, only three other private citizens have laid in memorial in the Rotunda—two Capitol Police officers who were killed on duty in 1998 and Rosa Parks in 2005.
