Religious Leaders See Tragedy And Justice In Supreme Court Gay Marriage Decisions

Elizabeth Tenety of The Washington Post reports on the spectrum of reactions from various religious leaders after yesterday’s Supreme Court decisions on same-sex marriage. While the statement from Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco read, “The Supreme Court has dealt a profound injustice to the American people by striking down in part the federal Defense of Marriage Act,” the statement from Reverend Gay Clark Jennings, president of the House of Deputies of the Episcopal Church said, “I join with millions of Christians across the country in celebrating today’s Supreme Court rulings that extend equal protection under federal law to all marriages.”
