Rabbis Protest Trump’s Comments by Boycotting Conference Call

posted on August 24, 2017

The New York Times‘ Alexander Burns reports that a large group of rabbis will not participate in presidential conference calls, which are an annual tradition around the High Holy Days. The boycott comes as a protest of Trump’s comments after Charlottesville. Burns writes, “Four coalitions of rabbis, hailing from different strains of American Judaism, publicly spurned Mr. Trump, denouncing him in unusually pointed language.” He added, “In a joint statement, the organizations — which claim the backing of more than 4,000 rabbis and congregations — accused Mr. Trump of having given ‘succor to those who advocate anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia.'”
