At Christianity Today, Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra reports that “this year, 80 evangelical Methodist pastors and theologians proposed that traditionalists and progressives, like Paul and Barnabas in Acts, ‘part amicably.'” The United Methodist church regularly debates homosexuality, and decades of fighting over the issue have been “emotionally draining” and “spiritually nullifying,” Maxie Dunnam, a former Asbury Theological Seminary president, said. Dunnam believes ministry by both traditionalists and progressives will be more effective post split.
