Prayer Service for Muhammad Ali Draws Thousands to Hometown Arena

The New York Times‘ Ken Belson reports from a Muslim prayer service held in honor of Muhammad Ali in Louisville, Kentucky. “Thursday’s ceremony, which was held in a spartan convention space, was to be followed by a more elaborate public event on Friday,” Belson writes. Sherman Jackson, an Islamic scholar at the University of Southern California, spoke at the service. “Jackson said that Ali did more than anyone to ‘normalize’ Islam in America, and that ‘he gave us courage and taught us how to fight.'”
