Pope to Address Migrant Issues at U.S. Mexico Border as Religious Groups Struggle to Respond Worldwide

In the Deseret News, Allison Pond reports that Pope Francis will address migrant issues at the United States’ southern border on February 17 as he continues his tour throughout Mexico. Francis will say a prayer at the Rio Grande river, urging Catholic churches and communities to open their doors to persecuted migrants. “The fact that they leave their homeland doesn’t mean they leave behind their human dignity and their human rights,” said Bishop Mark J. Seitz of the Diocese in El Paso. “I expect him to call us to our responsibility to respond to migrants with compassion.”
