Pope Tells Putin: “Sincere” Peace Efforts Needed for Ukraine
posted on June 11, 2015The Associated Press’ Nicole Winfield and Frances D’Emilio report on the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis, which took place at the Vatican on Wednesday. “As it was possible to predict in the context of the world situation, the talks were dedicated principally to the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East,” Rev. Federico Lombardi, a spokesman for the Vatican, said. “Francis stressed the ‘need to commit oneself in a sincere and great effort to achieve peace.’”
