posted on March 30, 2016

At The New Yorker, Robin Wright reports that the United States is attempting to unite religious and ethnic sects in Iraq in order to launch an offensive against ISIS. While the United States is not officially in charge of the operation in Iraq, it provides supplies and advanced tactical support to groups combating ISIS. “We provide the best equipment that we can, the best advice we can on tactics and strategy, and on how to approach problems,” said Colonel Scott M. Naumann. “When it’s time for the competition to take place, we have to stand on the sidelines. This is an Iraqi fight. It’s not an American fight.”
