Obama Seeks Sweeping ISIS Authority Amid Infighting over Open-ended War

At The Guardian, Dan Roberts writes, “The White House sought authority on Wednesday to expand its military campaign against the Islamic State, against a backdrop of mounting opposition to US foreign policy not just from the Republican opposition but from inside Barack Obama’s own party.” The draft bill seeks a three-year authorization of military force with no geographic boundaries, allowing the U.S. to fight ISIS anywhere in the world, Roberts reports. Republicans and Democrats in Congress both fear that the bill grants the president and his successors too much leeway in waging war.
