Obama Considers Weighing in on Gay Marriage Case

posted on February 22, 2013

Julie Pace of the Associated Press writes on the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California, and whether the Obama administration will urge the Court to overturn it. Supporters of same-sex marriage saw Obama’s second inaugural address as a call to legalize the redefinition of marriage: “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law … For if we are truly created equal, than surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well,” Obama said. If the Obama administration does try to influence the Court’s decision, they will file a “friend of the court” brief by February 28.
