North Carolina Governor Says He Wants Bathroom Law Partially Changed After Backlash
posted on April 13, 2016Mark Berman of The Washington Post reports, “North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) responded to a backlash against the state’s new law banning anti-discrimination protections for gay and transgender people by signing an executive order Tuesday aimed at calming the firestorm.” McCroy expanded protections for state employees who now cannot be fired for being gay or transgender, but defended the bill’s most high-profile provision stating that individuals must use public restrooms in accordance with their sex on their birth certificate. “I’m glad Governor McCrory has finally acknowledged the great damage his legislation has done, but he needs to do much more,” said Roy Cooper, North Carolina’s Attorney General.
