North Alabama’s Only Abortion Clinic to Surrender Its License by Monday, Close Downtown Huntsville Facility

The Huntsville Times’ Steve Doyle reports, “The pending closure of Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives leaves the state with just three active, licensed abortion clinics.” The Huntsville clinic is closing due to compliance concerns with Alabama’s Women’s Health and Safety Act. “Signed into law by Gov. Robert Bentley in April 2013, the controversial act requires Alabama abortion clinics to meet the same building standards as ambulatory surgical centers,” Doyle writes, including hallways wide enough for gurneys.
