Muslims Say They Deserve School Time Off For Holidays, Too
posted on October 16, 2013At Religion News Service, Omar Sacirbey reports that many Muslim Americans say they deserve time off school to celebrate Islamic holidays. While several school districts in Trenton, Cambridge, and Michigan observe some Muslim holy days, efforts in New York City, Connecticut, and Maryland have been met with opposition. “I hate to say that the source of the resistance is discrimination, but we can’t help but sometimes think that’s what it is,” said Zainab Chaudry, vice president of the Maryland chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
