Mission Trips Aren’t Just For Christians Anymore As Jews Aim To “Heal The World”

Lauren Markoe of Religion News Service reports that Jewish mission trips are growing in synagogues as Jewish leaders look to appeal to the new generation. While the Jewish faith does not support proselytizing, mission trips help fulfill the obligation to “heal the world.” Rabbi Sid Schwartz, head of a Reconstructionist synagogue in Maryland, says, “At a time when synagogues are losing market share and ‘Next Gen’ Jews are deeply ambivalent about how much they are prepared to identify as Jews, I can testify that this kind of service mission is a game changer.”
