Methodist General Conference to Discuss LGBT Issues — Againposted on May 9, 2016
At Religion News Service, Emily McFarlan Miller reports that the United Methodist Church is set to discuss homosexuality at its General Conference, which begins this week. Many clergy who support gay rights are hopeful that talks will be positive, as same-sex marriage is now legal within the United States. “It’s the perennial issue that will not go away, and for better or for worse, it’s the main battle flag issue between the liberal side of the church and the conservative side of the church,” said Mark Tooley, president of the conservative Institute on Religion & Democracy.
