Meet Rashad Hussain, the First Muslim to Serve as America’s Religious Freedom Ambassador

Kelsey Dallas of Deseret News interviews Rashad Hussain, the first Muslim American to serve as the State Department’s ambassador of religious freedom, about his personal journey to the role and his priorities in office. Hussain said, “I feel grateful to be the first Muslim to be in this position and I realize there are so many others from the Muslim community who are perhaps even more qualified to do this work. But, again, this gratitude also comes with a sense of responsibility.” Hussein previously worked in the Obama administration as an attorney and later served as the U.S. Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
