Medals of Honor Go To 24 Army Veterans Who Had Been Denied

posted on March 19, 2014

Jada F. Smith of The New York Times writes on the awarding of 24 Medals of Honor to army veterans who had been previously denied. The ceremony was a result of the Leonard Kravitz Jewish War Veterans Act of 2001, a congressional measure requiring the military to investigate whether Jewish and Hispanic service members were overlooked for the Medal of Honor due to their race, religion, or ethnicity. “No nation is perfect,” President Obama said at the ceremony. “But here in America, we confront our imperfections and face a sometimes painful past, including the truth that some of these soldiers fought and died for a country that did not always see them as equal.”
