Looking for Love in One of the World’s Tiniest Religions

posted on June 4, 2014

Jihii Jolly reports for The Atlantic from a convention of the American Druze Society. “The desire to marry someone within the faith is not just a preference—the religion prohibits exogamy,” Jolly writes, adding that there are no conversions into the faith. With a population of only one million worldwide, finding a match can be difficult, so conventions become critical to reinforcing religious identity and meeting other Druze. “What seems to make it worth it is the chance to share and preserve a rich spiritual history with a spouse.”
