Kentucky Clerk Denies Gay Couples Marriage Licenses, Defying Court

Alan Blinder and Richard Pérez-Peña of The New York Times report, “Defying the Supreme Court and saying she was acting ‘under God’s authority,’ a county clerk in Kentucky denied marriage licenses to gay couples on Tuesday.” On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected County Clerk Kim Davis’ claim that, on religious grounds, she should not have to comply with the recent court decision establishing a national right to same-sex marriage.
