Judge Strikes Down Tex. Same-Sex Marriage Ban, Paving the Way for Shift in Conservative Stateposted on February 27, 2014
The Washington Post reports on a Texas federal judge’s ruling that declared the state ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Orlando L. Garcia called the ban “state-imposed inequality” and wrote, “These Texas laws deny Plaintiffs access to the institution of marriage and its numerous rights, privileges and responsibilities for the sole reason that Plaintiffs wish to be married to a person of the same sex.” His ruling follows the logic used in Utah, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia, where similar rulings have invalidated anti-gay marriage laws.
