Jewish Coalition Rejects Lobbying Group’s Bid to Join

Michael Paulson of The New York Times reports on the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organization’s decision to deny membership to the lobbying group, J Street, that has criticized Israeli policies at times. Out of the members present for the vote, 17 voted in favor of J Street while 22 voted against. Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of J Street, said, “This is what has been wrong with the conversation in the Jewish community. People whose views don’t fit with those running longtime organizations are not welcome, and this is sad proof of that.”
