Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman profiles Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife Becky in the aftermath of their fall from grace at Liberty University. In 1988, Jerry Falwell’s father brought him on board at the evangelical university to help rescue it from bankruptcy. The younger Falwell grew the campus exponentially before his tenure ended with an adultery scandal involving him, his wife, and a young man from Florida. Falwell told Sherman: “Because of my last name, people think I’m a religious person. But I’m not. My goal was to make them realize I was not my dad.’”
