In Buddhist-Majority Myanmar, Muslim Minority Gets Pushed to the Margins

Anthony Kuhn of NPR reports, “Now, two years after the violence between Buddhists and Muslims in western Myanmar broke out, no quick resolution to the ethnic and sectarian conflict is in sight.” Rohingya Muslims have been deprived of citizenship since 1982. Kuhn reports, “Aid agencies say nearly half the displaced people in Rakhine state lack reliable access to safe and nutritious food,” as well as medical services. The US has enacted economic sanctions on Myanmar due to the Rakhine Buddhist-majority government’s human rights violations towards the Rohingya.
