Ibtihaj Muhammad to Make Olympic History
posted on August 8, 2016The Associated Press’ Luke Meredith writes that Ibtihaj Muhammad is set to make Olympic history Monday as the first American athlete to compete while wearing a hijab. A native of New Jersey, Muhammad took up the sport because its uniform standards aligned with her faith. Meredith writes, “Muhammad, ranked eighth in the world in her weapon, will open individual women’s sabre competition against Olena Kravatska of Ukraine.”
