Humanists Want A Military Chaplain To Call Their Own

Kimberly Winston of Religion News Service reports that although humanists are able to meet many of the requirements to become military chaplains, they are unable to do so because the Humanist Society is not recognized as one of the approximately 200 groups allowed to endorse chaplains for the military. According to “Chaplain Mitch,” a humanist chaplain who would not give his full name for fear of losing his position, humanists are pushing recognition in order to “validate the life system and the ethics of thousands of soldiers who already identify as nonreligious and feel themselves patriotic individuals.”
