Worried because his daughters sing the Israeli national anthem at a Jewish day camp, Oppenheimer reflects, “Sure, its daily singing at camp is a bit of unthinking, reflexive, casual propagandizing for a country that is, like our own, deeply morally compromised. But context is everything … At camp, ‘Hatikvah’ is not, or not only, a national anthem. It’s a daily rite.”
