How Religion in the US Today Tracks Closely with Geography

Brad Knickerbocker reports that according to a new Gallup survey, religious identity correlates closely with location. While the most Catholic states are located in the Northeast, Gallup reports, “All 10 of the most Protestant states are located in the South.” As for fervency, Vermont, along with other New England states, have the lowest percentage of those who identify themselves as “very religious,” at 22 percent, while Mississippi and other states in the Deep South had the highest with 61 percent.
