The Washington Post’s Michelle Boorstein asks Harvard’s Robert Putnam about the role of churches in combatting poverty. This week top evangelical and Catholic leaders met for a summit at Georgetown University to discuss rising inequality in the U.S. “I think the involvement of America’s faith community is close to being a necessary condition for Americans coming to grips with the issue of inequality and especially of opportunity,” Putnam says. “When the faith communities have in history taken inequality seriously, the country has moved.”
