For G.O.P., Pope Francis’ Visit to Congress Comes with Tensions

In The New York Times, Jennifer Steinhauer writes that Pope Francis’ September visit to Congress will bring political tensions for many on Capitol Hill. Before Pope Francis “will be 535 House members and senators who dare not show even a whiff of disrespect during the speech, whether he is imploring action on climate change or wading into the issue of abortion,” Steinhauer writes. His speech “will afford him a rare opportunity to deliver a message at the seat of American political power, with a vast audience around the nation.”
