Florist Who Rejected Same-Sex Wedding Job Broke Washington Law, Judge Rules

The Los Angeles Times’ Christine Mai-Duc reports, “A Washington state florist who refused to provide flowers for a same-sex wedding, citing religious reasons, violated consumer protection laws, a judge ruled Wednesday.” Barronelle Stutzman, owner of the florist shop, claimed that by providing flowers to the wedding, she would be violating her the tenets of her Southern Baptist faith. However, Judge Alexander C. Ekstrom disagreed, writing in his decision, “Religious motivation does not excuse compliance with the law.”
