Federal Workers Deserve a Living Wage

At Religion News Service, Sister Simone Campbell, Naeem Baig and Rabbi David Saperstein have an opinion piece that discusses the dignity of labor amidst the government shutdown. The federal government is the largest low-wage job creator in the country, and many federal employees struggle on an income often below the minimum wage. They write, “Our faith compels us to address these fundamental moral and human rights issues. When workers toiling under the purview of the federal government aren’t making enough to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads, the president ought to do something to lift these workers out of poverty.”
