Faith-Based Dorms: A Refuge, Not A Fortress

Janie B. Cheaney of WORLD magazine discusses the growing trend of faith-based housing on college campuses in light of last week’s news that Alabama’s Troy University faces criticism from the Freedom from Religion Foundation over its new faith-based dorm. She writes that although the housing does not guarantee purity or safety, it does provide a welcome sanctuary for Christian students. “A faith-based dorm or an active Christian student center, if the college is blessed enough to have one, can be a welcome refuge, but it’s no substitute for adequate preparation. Prepare them to be countercultural.”
