Evangelicals Are Changing Their Minds on Gay Marriage
posted on July 8, 2014In POLITICO Magazine, Jim Hinch writes on the sudden surge of evangelical support for same-sex marriage. A “quiet movement” to reinterpret Biblical verses that apparently condemn homosexuality has created a near majority of young evangelicals who support same-sex marriage, along with many prominent pastors, professors, and authors. As many evangelicals still remain bound to a strict scriptural condemnation of homosexuality, Hinch reports, “The change has taken conservative political leaders by surprise, fractured the coalition against gay marriage and begun to dry up funding for some of the traditional-marriage movement’s most prominent organizations.”
