Deadly Attacks Tied to Islamist Militants Shake Nigeria
posted on March 3, 2014Adam Nossiter of The New York Times reports that more than 100 people, including at least 50 children, were killed in Nigeria in two attacks on Saturday, which government officials blamed on the Islamist group Boko Haram. Pressure is mounting on the government and military to adopt a tougher approach to the mysterious group. “People are very shocked and scared,” said Dr. Salma Anas-Kolo, the health commissioner of Borno State. “People feel that these Boko Haram can just come attack, and the military people are never there.”
